How we clean carpet
Nothing fancy here. Just the steps that actually work, done the same way every time:
- Walk-through. You show us the rooms and point out anything we should know about. If a spot might not come out, we'll say so up front.
- Vacuum and pre-treat. Traffic lanes, entryways and stains get a pre-spray so the dirt lets go.
- Hot water extraction. Hot water goes deep into the fibers and gets pulled right back out with strong suction, along with the dirt.
- Rinse. We go over it with clean water so there's no soap left behind. Leftover soap is why some carpets look dirty again a few weeks after a cleaning.
- Groom. A quick brush so the carpet dries evenly and looks right.
"Steam cleaning" vs. other methods
Steam cleaning and hot water extraction are the same thing. You'll also see companies offering dry or "low-moisture" cleaning, sometimes called bonnet cleaning. It looks good for a week or two because it cleans the tips of the fibers, but it doesn't pull much dirt out of the carpet. Extraction does, which is why carpet makers like Shaw and Mohawk recommend it.
Why it matters a little more in Lehi
Fine dust from all the building going on, sand and mag chloride from winter roads, and hard water residue all end up in local carpet. That grit acts like sandpaper every time someone walks across it. Getting it out regularly is the cheapest way to keep your carpet from wearing out early.
How long does it take?
A typical house takes one to two hours. Drying usually takes 4 to 8 hours, and it's often quicker here than in other parts of the country because our air is so dry. You can walk on it right away in clean socks.
